Maui Sunsets
by Nancy ~ February 19th, 2006. Filed under: Hawaii. One of the favorite past times in Maui is to watch the sun set into the ocean. It is totally unique each evening and you can never seem to predict which days will end up with the best sunset colors. We have found that clouds often really enhance the sunset. Also the color on the underside of the clouds after the sun has set is often the most beautiful.
We have a few favorite spots to view the sunsets. We often gather with friends across the street at Kamaole Beach III and enjoy the sunset, whale watching, pupus (appetizers) and a glass of wine or maybe a Mai Tai. We are also partial to the Sunset Bar at the Renaissance Hotel - I love the coconut shrimp there. We went the other evening with friends and the popular island drinks were the Green Flash and the Lava Flow.

Enjoying sunset cocktails with friends. Jeff is using the back scratcher than came with Chuck’s drink called the Wailea Itch.
We enjoyed the Sunset at the Renaissance on Friday night with friends and it was one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen. It started with a light shining from the clouds down on the water. The light on the water grew toward us as the sun emerged beneath the clouds. The colors were just spectacular and the cloud made it possible to actually look at the sun.
This was a beautiful progression as the sun emerged beneath the clouds and colored the water below.
Once the sun got to the water there must have still been a haze because it was not as bright as normal and was a perfect round pink - as if it were painted. It was just breathtakingly beautiful

I take dozens of digital pictures of the sun setting each day. If you’d enjoy seeing some more sunsets on Maui just click here and you’ll see a sunset slide show.

Thanks for sharing the Hawaiian sunsets Nancy - wish we could have seen them with you in person. Another year perhaps.
