A Whale of a Day Paddling
by Nancy ~ February 20th, 2006. Filed under: Hawaii.On Monday and Thursday mornings, Chuck leaves before 7 AM to go out for a “paddle” with the Maui Canoe Club. The have 6 people in an outrigger canoe and they paddle out into the Pacific here. The other morning they came upon a whale which is not unusual. They stopped paddling because you are supposed to stay 100 yards away from the whales. They all watched intently but the whale did not resurface for several minutes. Then suddenly they heard a big “WOOOOOSH” of the whale exhaling BEHIND their canoe! The whale had swum right under the canoe! Of course everyone turned around and it was fortunate that they didn’t overturn the canoe with the sudden movement! What an exciting experience!

My goodness, that must’ve been a very exciting adventure for Uncle Chuck!! Yikes!
