The Lion Dance

The end of the Chinese New Year is celebrated with the Lion Dance. We attended a local celebration.

This is the beginning of the year of the Boar. The Boar is the last of the 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac Cycle. Boar people are known to be chivalrous, gallant, honest, tolerant, seekers of knowledge and well informed. They avoid confrontation and are sensitive, practical family oriented - splendid companions. The Year of the Boar is a good year to have a child for it is believed that the fortunate child will be happy and honest.

The lions dance around with fireworks going off and drums. It’s very festive. Then they go around and play with the crowd.
