Adam returns to Maui

by Nancy ~ March 4th, 2007. Filed under: Hawaii.
We were thrilled when Adam said he’d be joining us in Maui for a week after his week of skiing in the NorthWest. We always love seeing the boys and this was an unexpected treat.

Here we are with Adam enjoying a sunset cocktail

Our First morning we went on a lovley beach walk.

A Childhood Fanstasy Comes True -

Swimming with the Dolphins

On the second day of Adam’s visit we planned a trip over to Lanaii .. a small island 9 miles of Maui. We’ve visited Lanaii a number of times and always enjoyed the snorkeling and laid back atmosphere there. This was the very best visit ever! Adam & I were snorkeling and decided to swim across the bay to the other side. On the way across we encountered a large pod of Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins! It was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced! It was such a thrill. Chuck took the picture below from the shore which shows a dolphin swimming between Adam & I at the surface. What you cannot see from the photo is that there are 50 or 60 dolphins gently, slowly swimming below us! It was so fascinating. They just glided around us .. often in pairs or triples swimming together as if hugging or drafting each other. We saw mothers with their babies tucked under their flippers. We just glided along on top with them as if we were part of the pod and they seemed to be totally comfortable with us .. sometimes curious. Originally they swam right to us. At first it was almost frightening but as time went on we just glided along with them. It was FABULOUS!

We are just gliding along with 50 or 60 dolphins swimming below us here! It’s so FABULOUS.

You can see the enthusiasm on Adam’s face as he’s leaving the water after swimming with the dolphins.

This is the view of the bay from the Four Seasons. The bay is where the dolphins joined us while swimming. You can click on the photo for a larger view.

This was one of most delightful days of our many here in Hawaii. From start to finish it was beautiful and exciting. As a child I always loved to swim and often fantasized about being a dolphin or swimming with them. This was an adventure of a lifetime .. unexpected and exhilerating.

On a much more tranquil experience we still enjoy the sunsets ..

We’re heading home soon but these photos always bring back warm memories of the special Aloha of Hawaii.
