Our Last Few Days in Maui
by Nancy ~ March 11th, 2007. Filed under: Hawaii. Our last few days in Maui were very busy and exciting. As I wrote below Adam came to visit and we had our terrific adventure on Lanai swimming with the spinner dolphins. On our next to last full day my dear friend, Jessica and her husband were on a Hawaiian cruise and we were able to spend a wonderful day with them. We met them as they got off the boat in Lahaina.
Jessica was one of my students when I taught Computer Science at Hartford State Tech College … over 30 years ago!! How can that be?! We’ve been in touch ever since.
We had a fabulous day in Maui .. We explored just a little in Lahaina
Jessica & I under the Banyan Tree .. it’s 150 years old and the one tree fills the whole park. After we left Lahaina we stopped and did a little whale watching from the point.
Then we drove up the the Iao Valley. Commonly known as the Iao Needle, the traditional Hawaiian name for this 2250 foot peak is Kuka Emoku. During periods of warfare the peak was used as a lookout by warriors.
There is a beautiful little oriental garden in this lush valley.
Here we are enjoying lunch in Wailea .. perfect weather, overlooking the golf course and the pacific. Another typical, perfect day in Paradise.
We had to move out of our condo a day before we left so we spent our last night at the Mana Kai, which is right on the water. We enjoyed the views! Somehow we never tire of looking at the gorgeous, turquois water - always watching for whales. The beach and palm trees are always so exotic and seductive. I always enjoy seeing the photo - they bring those warm breezes to mind.
But Maui is only our temporary winter retreat and we always return home to Mystic. Even though it was the second week in March you can see that winter still had Mystic tight in it’s grip.
But we were still very happy to be home. As Dorothy said, “There’s no place like home”
